"A person should not be too honest. Straight trees are cut first and Honest people are victimized first."

`Honesty pays in the long run' don't we hear this quite often. Be it any aspect of life we need to highlight the need for integrity, the most sought after trait a man must possess.
In an interview many learned HR managers seek to know what is your stand on integrity and one has to be very honest to push your case .
Very early in my career I was asked if integrity was important to me and my answer was in affirmation. `So how would I react to a particular situation' said the interviewer .My young and inexperienced mind blurted out the truth which would have cost me the job but appreciating an honest answer, did get to pocket it.Lucky I was.
Honesty did pay off and I worked hard and diligently till I reached the middle of my career. Challenges come as one reaches the middle of life and I couldn't have avoided them.
Surrounded by `thieves ' who stood protected by their `Godfathers' in plural left me high and dry. The values on which I had grown up stood diminished and my own survival became a question mark.
But to deal with the crooked ,one has to bend the little finger too often and it did work without sacrificing my own integrity.
But the hormone of honesty pumped furiously into my veins the `mantra of honesty' which made me straight and integral.
Spiritual mind encouraged me to pardon the guilty and set them on a path of reform.
As I looked around I found the dishonest growing in numbers and ready to pounce on the `naive' read honest .
Never before I had felt so helpless .The `thieves and Liars' thrived .
I had embarked on a journey of truth and was a robust tree who had now just begun to bear fruits of life. The only fault which lay with me was that my trunk was straight and I knew the `woodcutter' would not be far away who would axe me to ground in no time.
So did Chanakya say it right. How could I question the great man's wisdom who knew how this world behaved .I saw the truth in his wisdom so clear and blatant .

Headlines- `As Never Seen Before'

Who makes it to the Headlines is different from who makes them.Over the time things have changed and we have more upcoming comedy script writers than some serious journalists. The surge in technology and viewership has catapulted to a new high and so has the need for sensationalism. So what if it requires a line which may end up producing a sensation in the` ribs'.

One of the most common Headlines or the news which often `breaks' is the use of `As Never Seen Before' almost making it look like some sexplicit pictures are about to adorn your screen but all you end up seeing is some footage which probably could make you `break' into a big yawn.

Yesterday as I decided to surf through channels all I could see was Dhoni and his wife surfing and they were supposed to be `as never seen before'. With my knowledge of Kamasutra ,this certainly did not qualify as one of the new `asanas'(posture)which probably seemed to be the motive .

The palpable excitement in the reporter's voice achieved a new pitch as she mentioned that there were other team mates also enjoying...`the splash in the sea' obviously came later.Did it want me to laugh or get all excited or plainly just sit through was anybody's guess.

Well some of headlines definitely are crafted to catch your eye but end up catching the imagination.

Ha! I grew up on very serious journalism when I read `The Statesman' but this generation is growing up on `Patni ke Sath Samundar Mein' well the `Irada is Certainly Na-Pak',

Investigations

Now that the `monsoon wedding' is over, its time for sleuths to get down to business straight away.
The menu of agencies looks hauntingly straight into the eyes of the Guilty who run helter skelter to protect their already tattered image.Well the class which caters to the the chosen few or is it many are so well used to get it all darned, with alacrity.
We all discuss the discomfort and the squirming `men in question' on every platform possible. Lest the train be missed.
But are we not used to it all. Has the awareness and the intrusive electronic media or even the continued onslaught against the `circus' in anyway affected the making of moolah. Not that I would like to arrive at a conclusion.
In our effort to focus so strongly on the `guilty' we do not want our attention on the `perpetrator' of this extreme orgy of making ` moolah' not that we are ignorant about it but should it open a pandora's box.
No evil can be uprooted till we really see from where the roots originate. Those firmly ensconced within the confines of Corridor's of Power rarely attract attention otherwise.
The epitome of sophistication this breed loom's large on our thinking process and we tend to get overwhelmed by their presence.
Obviously our mind is numb struck to the point of no return and we become ignorant.
A political figure who commands the destiny of India at present has her son-in-law proudly proclaiming that `a win from anywhere in India' for him is a foregone conclusion. `Democracy we are in certainly fails to look at such aspects that it prefers to breed .
I shudder at the thought of this kind of `fun and frolic' continuing to cater to the powerful and we as common man in awe of the `jokers' who perform to the naive audience who think its all a circus and we should enjoy it.

The Event-Festivity of Corruption

Event as it goes has a different meaning and effect each time it takes place. It even gives one an expression of joy, sadness or even indifference but it does evoke a reaction.
India a country of various regional and caste affliations is besieged with innumerable events which the Indian race tends to take part in.A country which preaches brotherhood and unity is still divided by events in its magnitude and celebration, but then cultural diversity does present this problem and one has to live with it.
But One event united everybody and that was Common Wealth Games.I frankly saw secularism in it.All religions came together and the country was United against the festivity of corruption. The crackers which kept bursting of and on were either filled up with a very expensive toilet paper or substandard material which would give away the moment light was shown to it .
We as spectators were overjoyed to see the man behind the festivity squirm in discomfort as his mentors shied away from the field where he lay alone facing it all.
The festivity of corruption had the blessings of the Mighty this time and not the Almighty.Obviously the Mighty have never protected ALL and showed their back to the very originator of this festival.
As the noises fade away and the people move away from the playground don't be surprised if the Ravana looks so familiar this time.
I may get to hear the hushed whispers or is it the chinese whispers now about this event and all those who took part in it.
Distance will grow now as the nation unites to witness the Fireworks take place. Many will even not recognize each other and credit snatchers will smile all the way to the bank .
Yes my friends this certainly was the Event of the Decade which has witnessed the `Father of all scams' ,mother has already run away ,if I may call it IPL and as the festival of Dusshera approaches ,the cry for justice will be unanimous.Never has been the nation so united in such a secular fashion.
Jai Ho!

Power and Character

Power as they say corrupts. Worldwide this phenomenon unites the powerful and makes them come on a common platform.Nothing else could have achieved this feat but`Power'.
The world is growing and so are the attitudes, lifestyle or even the approach.Though many cry foul but all is being taken in stride.
Start with the approach, where a head of the state gently massaged another but this time it was a Lady,or even how the number twos flirted with each other in a press conference. The eyes look down and follow everywhere whether its a head of a state or its his chosen one.The power does corrupt the mind.
Recently HP removed its top boss for an allegation which is so common now. Of course another one hired his services. It did corrupt his thinking not his mind, very confusing but pardonable.
Till sometime back Power forced the powerful to hide their preferences but as the world grows and braces itself for a new one, infact most of them boast about their prowess so openly.Of course it doesn't matter if it comes from Italy or France.
I always used to assume that power meant money but as I grew up it gave a new dimension. The character does start showing cracks as one grows more powerful. The lure and lust grows whether its for the money or the woman.Who could ever forget the alleged video of an 80 year old politician caught with not one but 2 or were there 3.
So we do draw a silent conclusion that irrespective of the trade you are in Power does corrupt and there is no formatting which can bring your sanity and character back.
Yes this is all about Power and Character which lose their sheen as time advances and mind becomes more numb and wanders alongside lust and lure.

Ram -Hindu God

Now I have been really wanting to write about this one.So my friends pardon me if you find this `just not secular'

India has a multicultural society made up of religions, caste and creed which may take up lot of space and pages. But maybe a proper mention of the main faiths which drive the society is a must and they stand to be Hindus,Muslims and Christians.
The Hindus know a lot about Jesus and accept the term Almighty or God even in their own religion, they also stand to respect `Allah's wishes many a times.
Coming to Muslims at least in India and Pakistan the awareness seems to be okay if not very high but inwardly they have a fair idea of who is worshipped.
Christians normally would not show much awareness and prefer to be ignorant but many of my friends do know a lot about `Allah'.
So if I do really go by the above, Hindus are the only ones who have knowledge about other religion's worshipping ways and they really don't address any, by calling God English,Muslim or whatever.
On the contrary the English will call Ram a Hindu God or God as Hindu.
But has anyone tried to tell them that GOD is a English term which some Englishman would have formed to address the power who rules us,but we still accepted it and call our RAM -God.
Actually it is` AUM or OM'as we would prefer to call the power we worship. So instead of giving a religion to GOD why can't we address him without it. So who is more secular is anybody's guess.

Spiritual Experience

Time has its ways and means to bring you to the feet of your spiritual Guru. We call him our Sadguru who shows us the light at the end of the tunnel we have dared to enter but have lost the way in between.
A firm believer in Sai (Shirdi) who blesses all who come to him and bow down infront of him in respect.
A year after I started religously worshipping Sai ,my doors opened to Sadguru Anirudh Bapu. Was it co incidence or was it purposely done.
I found a dear classmate of mine I had studied with in junior school ,through facebook . Not that it was by chance, but came to know we had been staying in the same building/apartments for last 5 years and never could recognize each other all this while.
Our long lost association revived, the discussion would turn spiritual many a times and so came the mention of Anirudh Bapu .Many recognized the Sadguru as re-incarnation of Sai but his devotees saw Hari in Him.
I, as a normal person would react, did not believe much in him but did acknowledge his presence in my life in some form or the other.
As life carried on, my devotion towards him started growing and I started attending his Upasana (prayer meeting). That one hour of devotion did open my eyes and I did see Sai in him, trying to guide me whenever I lost my direction.
Today not that HE has done any miracle for me or granted me anything in a form which a normal human being would think of, but as and when I devote myself to him my spiritual level does go one level up.
Residing in Mumbai his devotees are in lakhs and come from intellectual class who listen to his discourses. A doctor by Profession ,his healing touch has given a new lease of life to many.
I have never attended any of his discourses ,but he does hold my hand when I feel the battle has been lost.I do feel SAI in his presence guiding me and showing that light I long for .
Many don't acknowledge him because he does not don a robe or has a spiritual dress code. But his presence does uplift one to a new spiritual level, closer to God.

I do sometimes wonder , did he want me to come to him in this manner. Is it a `leela' which he has done.It can be anything.God has his ways of blessing you and He can take any form so I do Bow in front him with folded hands and ask him to give me strength to face any adverse situation I come across.

Om Manah Samarthyadata Shree Anirudhay Namah!
Om Sai Ram

The Kabb-adi Wala

oh yes the guy comes in every Sunday to buy the raddi which stands adorned in one corner of your house or many call it the store room,at least I do.
Well suddenly I find them all disappearing and making a beeline for Kaal-madi's office. Oh dammit it, not another scam in the offing I hope and I know what the tv walla's will call it` Raddi Scam'

I know why it all happened. Finding the stadia empty ,the cameras got focussed on the seats where no one sat and lo! they all rushed for the passes only to find bidding going on for some damn raddi till a reporter came across a piece of paper. Well did he get the pass or not doesn't matter but he did get some good news and it was all about `Raddi'

We devise innovative ways to make money even if it is at the cost of social degradation .Does it really matter ,not at all except it will last over few drinks or in a drawing room and then forget about it.

As a society we have learnt to live with the evil and so even this is not heaven how does it really matter.

A politico thought of herself as a rock star just because she managed to turnaround the show in last few days. Ha! I laugh ,call me a cynic but for gullible public who believes it all.

An expenditure of this proportion will have the money going into wrong pockets by mistake and `monkeys' will make noises. So what, lets all get rich while the Sun is shining. Rains will only now come next year.

The shrill voice of the Kabbadi wala rudely awakens me and I candidly ask him` are you guys back'- to which he has a ready answer `arre Sahib Wahan ki Raddi kharid ne ke liye bhi humein bahut` raddi' deni padti hai.

Warning- this write up has no relation to any present or past incident and is a figment of imagination .

The Racial Slur

And he slurred...of course it was racial and the hue and cry can be heard all over. White, brown, black and if there were any more colors God had created for humans they would have joined the coveted list.
Why do we call it Racial at all.Don't we say `Goras' are here which is not superior or inferior to any color whatsoever. Its just a color so do we call it a racial slur. White is nothing to be proud of but probably in humans it is all about a pigment which could change the color of your skin or maybe born somewhere where Sun shines too much.

Aussies or English have traditionally been white and they thought the world outside theirs is all black or brown..Ha ha! Its the brain syndrome which made them confused and they start slurring. The same thing happened with us .We thought brown was what all the world was made of and we also indulged in slurring calling others white and black.

So did all this start the `race' and the `slurring'.

Look at the kids here who stare at the foreign bodies who land in our country ,totally amused.
I got asked in an interview sometime back-hey have you ever worked with Americans-now did you mean they were from Mars that I would need some special skills.Well so they say everywhere.
Well its not the color of skin which matters anywhere and those who do feel that white or brown is a superior color take a bow man and tell all that you are Color blind.
We respect all colors and all are equal because HE made sure the Seed which produced all had the same color.

Navratris

Festive season has begun and so is there a lot of excitement in the air. Most of all it is the women who get the opportunity to take the `roop' of `Gauri' mind you not `Chandi' which is something we do see all around the year. Not to be taken so seriously but maybe a mention of it makes it more festive.
The societies at least if not yours then surely mine sets up the stage where the Devi will reside for next 9 days .So far so good and it certainly adds to the spiritual flavour I already possess.
But then starts the race to become Maa's favourite and the coveted post unfortunately has to be decided by mere mortals.
The bugle oh I mean the `shankh' is sounded to begin the prayers I fold my hand in respect and head bowed down, eyes closed only to be rudely awakened by a shrill voice which perhaps is of `the most in demand lady'. Well God or the Goddess never discriminated so please do take advantage of this opportunity.
Many of us, well my contribution is a silent prayer, dance to the songs being played most of them are Remixes to make Goddess happy and bestow her blessings on the favoured few if not all.
The days do pass off with the choli lehngas all around ,doing dandiya making `Maa' smile and giving her blessings.

But maybe my thoughts wander away to many of those who go about doing their usual chores ,and lighting just a diya infront of Durga Ma's photo and yes I mean her photo silently praying for her blessings and seeking a better tomorrow.
Will they get one or not is for our Devi Ma to decide. I can only wish they all do so that these 9 nights `NavRatri' can illuminate their future forever.
Happy Navratras to all as I pray to Goddess for her blessings .

Follow Me

Social networking coined this much in demand term `follow' and now we all are so greedy about this .
Following was all about stalking when it came to physical presence of somebody but for these platforms which made it look so addictive and seductive.

I have been on twitter for quite some time now and find all kinds of people irrespective of gender following me or maybe I following them ,doesn't make a difference though till the time we can see each other on our timeline.
But at the same time somewhere the` follow me and you' becomes so ugly that it isn't anything about what we followed each other for.
Personalities clash and so do thoughts which had been so much appreciated till the doomsday.
In real life we all do love to have followers and maybe at a certain point gives us a Godly feeling but does it have a value add or contribution to our thinking, not that I could ever conclude on it.
We all are egoists who embark on the journey to make a point , something we feel so passionately about and there are only two options left. One is to accept it and the other is to leave it.Many choose the latter.
Some of them here, not that I believe in any gender bias entice you to follow them and they even reciprocate the gesture once the gullible` follower now' has , but one does tend to ponder where they got dropped off and when did it all happen. Yes they use the unfollow button just when you were following the other one.Was it jealousy or mere trap .Well keep guessing !
So in the end it is all about scoring some brownie points and making the other look like a fool. Part of the game as I would put it.
Follow me so closely resembles the principles of a political party besotted with dirty politics and the DMs so closely resemble chinese whispers being played all around and one being so oblivious to all of it that suddenly it dons upon that you could be the most hated person .Well as I said its all part of the game followers play.
So why all this at all. As, it is in our nature to court controversy,we love to be in the middle of it and so the carnival continues.
Did I survive this or not, is not the question but will this `Chaupal' survive the tussle between `Mars and Venus' Follow me certainly is the seductress many a times and takes you to the` well of disappointment' but carry on ,there is nothing to lose but maybe get drowned in the depth of this ugliness or lose your way in the chaos of heart and mind that prevails...

The Volunteers

moving around Delhi and you will see many young girls and lads dressed in a bright Red Reebok attire proudly proclaiming themselves as the Volunteers. The capital has the need for so many but why just for the Games.
There is so much of help required to survive in this city at every nook and corner. Mindless traffic which is bloating day by day and the girth is now getting so vulgar to the point that you can't look beyond a certain point.
Lost we are so many times now trying to find our way that as we stop to ask someone for directions we are not sure that we may end up losing our prized possession which we so proudly display to our neighbours , yes its the car.
Our law enforcers are not omnipresent and prefer to do the vanishing act only when we do it. Mind you they appear from wilderness if probably if they see scope of something `green' in sight.
So who does one rely on..yes we need the Volunteers more than anything else.
Train them not waste them. Who knows tomorrow can become better.
Volunteer we must to ensure that the Young guy who could avoid sitting on a Ladies' seat, because of his inability to read is told about it.
Volunteer we must to remove the Grossly over made up Beggars at the traffic signal who knock at the glass making you feel jittery about the crack it may cause in your wallet,so as you roll it down to give a rupee, a few thousands have been lost. Oh the cell phone did get picked up from your car then.

Well so many incidents we are experiencing and we all the time feel the need to have a volunteer around us who could guide us to our destiny.
